CAREGIVER GUILT

Join us for a supportive conversation exploring the guilt that often accompanies caregiving. Together, we’ll examine common sources of caregiver guilt, learn practical ways to reframe self-blaming thoughts and discuss coping strategies that can help lighten the emotional load. This program offers a compassionate, judgment-free space for caregivers to feel understood and supported.

THE AMERICAN PRAIRIE, IN PICTURES & POEMS

Celebrate the beauty and vitality of our native prairies. Henry and Susan will share insights on what makes prairies so valuable to our planet, plus tips on how to establish and maintain these vibrant ecosystems. They’ll weave in poetry inspired by their time among the wildflowers and grasses of Henry’s restored prairie near Good Thunder, where they gather each year with fellow poets to reflect and write. Expect an afternoon of learning, nature and lyrical reflection.

MANKATO BALTICS VINTAGE BASE BALL

  • April 28
  • 11 am – 12 pm

The world of vintage base ball (yes, “base ball”) is similar to today’s major leagues, but the sport in the 1860s was simpler and more of a “gentleman’s game.” Learn about those origins and today’s Vintage Base Ball Association from longtime participant Stumbles Lagerquist and Maverick Hayden, and impress your friends with your knowledge of vintage base ball, the way it was meant to be played.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AMONG OLDER ADULTS IN MANKATO

  • April 30
  • 2 – 3 pm

MSU-Mankato Community-Engaged Research students partnered with the city of Mankato to design and conduct a study on college students’ and older adults’ experiences in Mankato. The study, which included focus groups held at VINE, explored participants’ connection to the city and experiences with public amenities such as parks and transportation. Hear key findings from the study and what participants shared about life in Mankato.

GUIDED WRITING WORKSHOP: POINT OF VIEW

  • April 30
  • 3 – 4 pm

Join Adelia for a workshop exploring how life experience, personality and voice shape perspective and point of view in writing. Adelia will guide participants through interactive prompts designed to build empathy and experiment with different points of view. Learn key POV styles, practical techniques for using them effectively and get take-home exercises to continue developing your skills. Participants should save their work and bring it to the upcoming revision workshop.

Fitness Center

Our full-service fitness center is non-intimidating and features state-of-the-art strength training equipment. Our exercise equipment is easy to use and reduces stress on your joints. The smart-card technology personalizes your training, while keeping track of your progress. Professional staff and trained volunteers are always available to help.

Walking Track

No matter the weather outside, our cushioned walking track is always the perfect 70 degrees inside, with 360-degree views of the Minnesota River Valley. Research shows that a flat, firm, but not too hard surface is the best for older knees and joints.
