HISTORIC MANKATO WALKING TOURS: Railroad Workers & Secretaries
Mankato is the site of the largest mass execution in US history, “home” for the Betsy-Tacy stories, “the city” for folks on “Little House on the Prairie,” and the base for what was once one of the largest milling operations in Minnesota. Tony Filipovitch, retired professor of Urban Studies at MSU Mankato, will lead this walking tour and talk about “the little town that time forgot and the ages cannot improve”. Tour begins and ends at VINE. Walk into the working-class district of old Mankato, through Old Town, and back downtown.

MINI INFO SESSION: SENIOR LINKAGE LINE
For more than 25 years, the Senior LinkAge Line has been serving older Minnesotans and their families by connecting them to the resources they need such as Medicare information, prescription drug expense assistance, forms assistance, long-term care options counseling, caregiver planning and much more! This presentation will help individuals learn about the Senior LinkAge Line and how it supports older adults and their families with decision making..

FALLS PREVENTION
Falls can happen to anyone. Because bones become more brittle as people get older, the severity of injury from even a simple fall can be debilitating. Peggy Sue Garber and Gail Norris, trauma injury prevention nurses will demonstrate strengthening and balance exercises, and discuss medication, home environment and community safety. Learn what to do if you experience a fall and get techniques to prevent falls at home and in the community.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Sondra Herman, Executive Director, and Holly Schoettler, Community and Homeowner Outreach Manager, with Habitat for Humanity of South-Central MN will be providing an update as to the past, present and future of Habitat for Humanity in Mankato and surrounding communities. They will share information about the mission and vision of HFH, volunteer opportunities, and their newest initiative, reviving and growing the Aging in Place program, which focuses on assisting our aging population in safely remaining in their own homes.

The Moulin Rouge House, originally known as the historic Hunt House, was purchased in 2018 with the intention of restoring the home to its original Queen Anne style beauty. STORIES FROM ANTARCTICA
Antarctica is sometimes called “the last great wilderness.” Antarctica and the Southern Ocean are home to iconic megafauna like whales, penguins and seals; this cold and majestic ecosystem also plays a vital role in regulating climate and driving ocean currents that affect weather patterns around the world. In March of 2022 Julia was sponsored by Onward Energy to travel to Antarctica with the 2041 Foundation to learn about the continent and how we can preserve it in the future. Join us to hear Julia’s story and engage in conversation to better understand how Antarctica is a part of your story as well.
